Amid the massive outcry, the authorities in Kashmir on Thursday exhumed the bodies of two persons killed in the Hyderpora area of Srinagar on Monday.
Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the families of Mohammad Altaf Bhat and Dr. Mudassir Gul will be handed over to the respective families in Srinagar.
The two were buried at a graveyard at Wadder Zachaldara area of Handwara in Kupwara district of Kashmir.
The bodies were exhumed under the supervision of a local magistrate. A team of doctors was also present at the site during the process.
“The bodies will be handed to the families in Srinagar to their legal heirs,” they said.
Meanwhile, the families have been asked to take an undertaking to limit the size of funerals.
They said that restrictions have been imposed in the area to prevent “law and order” situation.
Earlier, The families of the slain contested police claims and said that the duo was innocent. They have been demanding their bodies for proper burial.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced a magisterial inquiry into the incident and soon Altaf Bhat’s brother Abdul Majeed welcomed it and said the family also demands that the killers of his sibling be brought to justice.
