Two drug peddlers arrested in Budgam, contraband substance recovered: Police

Police on Tuesday said they have arrested two drug peddlers from Khag area of central Kashmir’s district Budgam, a police spokesperson said.

In a statement, a spokesperson said that while continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Budgam Police have arrested 02 drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

“During Naka checking at Malpora crossing, a police party of Police station Khag intercepted two persons who were carrying nylon bags on their shoulders and were on their way from Malpora to Khag after noticing the police party they tried to flee from the spot, the police party chased them and both the persons were tactfully apprehended on spot along with nylon bags.”

“During questioning, the arrested persons disclosed their names as Firdous Ahmad Mir, R/o Nusso Khag and Mohd Shafi Wani, R/O Hanji Lawipora Beerwah. The seized nylon bags were opened on spot and Poppy Straw weighing 13 KGs was recovered,” said the spokesperson.

Further, “case FIR Number 65/2022 under relevant sections of law registered at Police Station Khag and investigation set into motion,” he said.

Moreover, “community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.” (Kashmir Bulletin–KB)
