
The Jammu Kashmir Police claimed that it has arrested two “hybrid militants” from the Pattan area of Baramulla in north Kashmir.
In a press statement, Police said, Based on specific reliable inputs regarding the movement of two terrorists in a vehicle towards Srinagar, on 26 April, joint MVCPs of 29 RR, JKP & 2 SSB were placed at various spots along the national highway and surrounding bylanes.
“A speeding Tavera, swerving in a suspicious manner, was signaled to stop however, the vehicle stopped abruptly and two individuals (driver & co-driver) jumped off the vehicle and fled towards a nearby wooded orchard area,” Police sai.
Joint paarties gave chase to the two and the escape route cut-offs were also activated who succeeding in nabbing the duo, the press release read.
The Police identified the two as Mohd. Aqib Mir S/o Mohd. Ramzan Mir, R/O Batpora, Sopore and Danish Ahad Dar S/O Abdul Ahad Dar, R/O Sopore.
The Jammu Kashmir Police also said, the seizure and search of the vehicle led to the recovery of incriminating materials including 2 Chinese pistols, 2 pistol magazines, ammunition 10 rounds, and Chinese grenades 2 as well as the vehicle in which they were traveling has been seized.
“So far in the investigation, it has transpired that the duo belong to the JeM hybrid module and were looking for targeting of PRIs and minority / outsiders.
The successful apprehension of the terrorists has foiled major terror plots and busted a module that was aiding the execution of various terror attacks including the killing of sarpanches etc,” Police said.
Further investigation is underway.
