Punjab Police have arrested an Indian Army soldier and his civilian associate for allegedly passing sensitive military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), according to media reports.
The accused soldier, Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Dhariwal in Amritsar, was serving in the Army in Jammu.
His associate, Sahil Masih, also from Dhariwal, was reportedly involved in the operation. The arrests were made during what Punjab Police described as an “intelligence-led operation,” as the two were allegedly attempting to hand over classified data.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, cited in multiple reports, said initial investigations revealed that Gurpreet Singh was in direct contact with ISI handlers and had shared sensitive military information through pen drives and discs.
Two mobile phones containing virtual numbers used to communicate with ISI operatives were seized from the suspects.
Police believe the key Pakistani handler involved is Rana Javed. The operation, authorities say, was facilitated by a Dubai-based drug trafficker named Arjan, also from Dhariwal, who allegedly introduced Gurpreet to ISI contacts about five months ago.
According to Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh, Gurpreet Singh—who joined the Army in 2016—used his access to gather and leak military intelligence.
He reportedly carried out surveillance, stole data, and delivered physical copies at pre-arranged locations. Investigators claim he was paid for his activities through a complex network of financial transactions involving friends, relatives, and foreign intermediaries to evade detection.
A case has been registered at Lopoke Police Station in Amritsar under the Official Secrets Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigations are underway to identify others involved in the espionage and terror network.
