Two local militants were killed in the encounter in the Halkan Gali forest range of Anantnag district of south Kashmir.
Police officials, on Saturday evening, addressing a press conference said that Jammu Kashmir Police and Indian Army’s RR launched a cordon and search operation in the area following inputs on militant movement in the Halkan Gali area.
Halkan Gali is the forest range between the Shangus and Kokernag belts of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
During the encounter, two militants were killed, who have been identified as local militants, said DIG Police south Kashmir range.
He identified the slain militants as Zahid Rashid Hassanpora,Bijbehara in Anantnag. He was missing since April 2024. “He had gone missing after the killing of a non-local labourer in the Arwani area of Anantnag,” the DIG said, as per The Kashmiriyat.
Another slain was identified as Mohammed Arbaz Mir of Quimoh who was missing since 2018 April from his home in Kulgam.
“The duo was involved in various crimes including the recent abduction of an army man whose dead body was found days later in the Shangus area of Anantnag,” said DIG south Kashmir.
