Two Local Militants Likely Killed in Kupwara- Internet Suspended

Two Local Militants have been reportedly killed in the encounter that had raged in the Khumriyal area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara District on Thursday.

The Militants allegedly opened fire when Indian Army laid a siege around a forest area in Khumriyal, Kupwara after which a brief gunfight raged.

Two Militants were killed, but the media initially reported, it was a group of Infiltrators, however later it has come into notice that the two Militants are both Kupwara Locals.

One of them has been identified as 28 Year old, Bilal Ahmed from Shat Muqam area of Lolab in Kupwara District of North Kashmir.

Bilal who was orphaned at an early age was a supplier at the fruit mandi in Srinagar for the past few years before he joined Hizb ul Mujahideen in March.

His father Shams-u-din Shah, was a militant and was killed in an encounter in Kupwara in 1992.

Another Militant has been identified as per initial reports as Zahoor Ahmed Mir, a resident of Thayan, Kalroosa area in Kupwara District.

Zahoor has reportedly joined the Hizb ul Mujahideen on 07 July 2018, as told by The Kashmiriyat earlier in a detailed story about 16 youth recruited into Hizb.

Immediately after the news of the local Militants being killed in the encounter, Internet services were shut in the district and shoppers in many areas downed their shutters.
