Police on Monday said they detained two militant associates under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
In a statement to GNS, police said that District Police Budgam, in a decisive action against anti-national elements, detained two “hardcore” Over Ground Workers (OGWs) linked to militant groups under the stringent PSA.
The detained individuals have been identified as Tahir Ahmad Kumar, son of Ab Hameed Kumar, a resident of Pakerpora, and Shabir Ahmad Ganai, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganai, a resident of Karpora Pakerpora.
The detentions followed sustained efforts and actionable intelligence that pointed to their active involvement in supporting militant outfits operating in the region. Authorities said invoking the PSA was necessary to prevent further threats to peace and public order.
According to police, the duo played key roles in facilitating militant activities by aiding movement, providing shelter, offering logistical support, and encouraging local youth to join banned militant organizations. Their detention, police added, marks a significant step toward dismantling militant support networks in Budgam.
Budgam Police reaffirmed their commitment to act firmly against any elements posing threats to the safety and security of the region.
The general public has once again been urged to support efforts to maintain peace by reporting any information related to anti-national, anti-social, or drug-related activities to the police, the statement concluded. (GNS)
