Two militants, including a top HM commander, were killed in an encounter in the Modergam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday afternoon, following inputs about the presence of militants, a joint team of forces launched a cordon and search operation in Modergam.
As the joint team of forces started the operation, the hiding militants fired on the team, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
During the gunfight, two militants were killed. Both were residents of the Shopian district, he said.
He said that one of the slain was HM commander Aadil Hussain Wani, who was a resident of Kutipora Shopian, while the other was identified as Faisal Bashir Lone of Kanipora Shopian.
Adil Hussain, son of Abdul Khalil Wani, was an operation theatre operator and had gone missing in March 2021.
The official said that the dead bodies of the deceased have been recovered and the forces are leaving the spot.
One house has also been damaged during the encounter encounter, Locals told The Kashmiriyat.
