Two Militants Killed in Kulgam Encounter- Massive Clashes Erupt

Two Militants have been killed as an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Khur in Damhal Hanjipora area of Kulgam district on Monday morning.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that a cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched in the area by joint team of forces including 34 RR, CRPF and Special Operations Group of Jammu Police on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area in wee hours of Monday.

The official said that, after trapping the militants, they were asked to surrender, however, they opened fire, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter.

During the heated exchange of gunfire, two militants were killed, who are yet to be identified, initial reports suggest that the duo are affiliated to Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind, the Zakir Musa founded Militant outfit.

One of the Militant is said to be from the Shopian District.

The Searches are still on, however the firing has stopped, an official at the encounter site said.

Meanwhile people in large number threw stones on Government Forces, who fired tear smoke shells and pellets at these protesters, which included a large number of women.

Mobile Internet services have been suspended in the Shopian and Kulgam Districts of South Kashmir.
