Two Militants Killed in Sopore Encounter

Two Local Militants have been killed in an overnight encounter that raged  late night on Wednesday in Gund Mohallah of Brath Kalan in Sopore area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla District.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that the encounter raged when two holed up Militants fired upon a joint party of 22RR, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF who were conducting a search operation in the area.

They said the forces put the operation at halt late night on Wednesday however they installed search lights to stop militants from taking advantage of the dark to escape from the spot.

After a lull of more than 8 hours, guns roared at the first light of morning and the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the slain have been identified as Tahir Dar from Sadipora and owais Bhat from GundBrath Sopore, one affiliated with Harkat ul Mujahideen and another with Jaish e Muhammad.

The operation had been earlier halted due to darkness and was resumed early morning, officials said.

They said that a search operation is  going on at the area and the bodies of Militants are being recovered from the encounter site.

Meanwhile mobile internet services were snapped in sopore area and educational institutions have been shut across Sopore as a precautionary measure. (The Kashmiriyat)
