
Two families belonging to the Bakarwal nomadic community were assaulted by a group of men leaving several family members, in the Palak Manana area of Samba district in Jammu, frightened.
According to a report by Clarion India, a group of cow vigilantes on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, attacked the families along with their cattle when the families were getting ready to leave for Kashmir valley.
According to the report, Shabbir Ahmad, head of one of the nomad family said, “It seemed they had made a proper plan to attack us. Somebody was carrying a rod while others a scythe. They attacked everyone including women and children. My six-year-old son Shahid was injured in the attack. His eye is damaged.”
The report quoting Shabbir further said that the attack lasted for three hours. The families asked the police for help at a checkpoint near the Nadda police post but the police watched as ‘mute spectators. “We pleaded before the police but they did nothing,” added Shabbir.
The SHO of a police station in Samba, however, said, “We will look into it and ensure that such incidents are not repeated.”
