Two Rockets Fired Near US Embassy in Baghdad’s Green Zone

On Thursday morning, two rockets targeted Baghdad’s Green Zone, as per an Iraqi security source’s information to AFP.

The source claimed that the attack caused no damage or casualties.

The attack comes after the conclusion of days of strategic talks between Iraq and the US.

The US president, Joe Biden had announced an end to the US combat troops’ presence in the region.

Although, no changes to the troop numbers were announced. And it is still not clear if there will be any reduction in the US soldiers currently in Iraq, which are 2,500 currently.

In the past couple of months, various facilities in the Kurdistan region have been attacked, by rockets and drones.

These attacks are often blamed on the Iran-backed Iraqi militias who demand the withdrawal of the American forces from the region.

Late in the month of June, the US had conducted airstrikes on the Iraq-Syrian border, after which various locations in Syria have come under attack as well.
