Two youth drown in north Kashmir, rescue operation launched

Two youth tragically drowned during separate incidents in north Kashmir on Thursday.

An official told The Kashmiriyat that Umar Hameed, son of Ab Hameed Dar and a resident of Naseer Abad, Sopore, drowned while taking a bath in the Nallah. The incident took place near the bridge at Sonwani Wadoora.

Following the incident, local residents and police promptly arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation to locate the youth. Efforts to rescue him are ongoing.

The police have taken cognizance of the incident and have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

Earlier on Thursday, 19-year-old youth, Nadeem, drowned while bathing in the river Jhelum near Jamia in Hajin, Bandipora, with rescue operations underway.

Pertinently, on Wednesday, a youth, identified as Athisham Shafi Lone, 20, son of Mohammed Shafi Lone, a resident of Nathipora, drowned near the bridge at Sonwani Wadoora, Sopore. His dead body was recovered today.
