‘Unethical and immoral’: Aga Ruhullah Mehdi demands end to public drinking in Srinagar

Member Parliament, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday asked the local administration and Police to stop “unethical” activities on rise in Kashmir valley.

Retweeting a video purportedly from Srinagar showing some non-locals drinking alcohol and disobeying traffic rules somewhere in Srinagar, the senior National Conference leader pointed out that such activities were frequently happening in Srinagar.

“Srinagar admin and Police should immediately put a stop to these unethical activities. These incidents are surfacing frequently in Srinagar. Tourists drinking alcohol is not only unethical and immoral, it also turns the drunken person into an unruly one,” Aga Mehdi tweeted.

Therefore, not only for the religious sentiments and ethical values of the people of the place, these activities should also be strictly forbidden and stopped to prevent crime, he added.

Pertinently, Jammu Kashmir police booked two persons a few weeks back for drinking alcohol publicly on a Shikara in Srinagar’s famous Dal lake.
