In a tragic twist, a wedding celebration in the Batengoo area of Anantnag was overshadowed by grief after the sudden death of the bride’s brother.
Fozia Jan’s wedding was in full swing on Saturday evening when her brother, Amir Ahmed Bhat, 24, who had earlier shown signs of mild illness, was rushed to the hospital.
On Friday, Amir had complained of a mild fever and was briefly admitted to a nearby hospital. After a few hours, doctors discharged him, locals told The Kashmiriyat.
However, on Saturday evening, as the celebrations for the wedding begun, Amir’s fever returned, prompting his family to take him back to the hospital. Expecting another short hospital visit, they hoped he’d be back soon, so the celebrations continued. “But his condition rapidly deteriorated,” locals said.
“The joy of the wedding vanished when Amir’s condition worsened,” a local told The Kashmiriyat. “Everyone thought he would recover as before, but the hospital visit took a devastating turn as he passed away on Saturday morning.”
As news of Amir’s passing broke on Sunday morning, the wedding celebrations halted abruptly.
The celebration of new beginnings transformed into a somber vigil, with family, friends, and neighbors gathering to bid Amir farewell.
