
On September 14, a 19-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped by four upper caste men in Hathras Uttar Pradesh, and is battling for life in Aligarh hospital where she has been put on a ventilator.
According to a JN Medical Hospital spokesperson,the girl got injuries on the neck and is on ventilator.
“The girl had gone to the fields with her mother on the fateful day and had gone missing soon after. She was later found brutally injured, with her deep cuts on the tongue. The accused also attempted to strangulate her”, Vikrant Vir the Superintendent of Hathras Police said.
The family says, the19-year-old was lying in a pool of blood, which oozed out of her mouth, neck and eyes. Her dupatta was tied around her neck. They took her to the district hospital where they told them that she needed to be shifted to Aligarh.
Based on preliminary evidence, the police arrested Sandip, Ramu, Lavkush and Ravi.
The SP said initially they came to know that one of the rapist’s name Sandip had tried to kill her following which he was arrested the same day. In her statement to the magistrate, the victim said that they raped her and when she resisted, they tried to strangulate her, leading to the cut in the tongue,as per the reports.
All four accused have been arrested now.
And had been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and later charged with gang-rape under section 376. The case will be tried by a fast-track court.
