UP lags behind Jammu Kashmir in Education, Health and Poverty Line

Be careful, if you leave this time, 5 years of hard work will be washed away and this time it will not take long for Uttar Pradesh to become Kashmir, Bengal and Kerala,” Yogi Adityanath told voters in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the first phase of elections in his state.

A statistical reading of the statement proves that Jammu Kashmir, Kerala and West Bengal are ahead of Uttar Pradesh in almost all spheres.

According to the data released by NITI Aayog- established by the Government of India, Uttar Pradesh lags behind the three states on several parameters including education.

The data released by NITI Aayog states that 0.7% of the total population in Kerala is poor while in Jammu Kashmir, 12.6% and in West Bengal 21.4% of the total population is poor.

On the other hand, in Uttar Pradesh, 37.8% of the total population is poor, as per the Government data. The national average of people living below the poverty line is 25%.

Uttar Pradesh has the two poorest districts in India-Shravasti and Bahraich. According to the report of NITI Aayog, 74.38 percent of the population of Shravasti district and 71.88 percent of the population of Bahraich district live below the poverty line.

Kerala is the top-performing state on the health index. According to the report Kerala stood at the top with 77.53 points, Jammu Kashmir with 61.02 points. UP ranked the worst on the health index with 34.44 points.

According to figures released by Survey by National Statistical Office (NSO) in India, UP Lags behind in Literacy rate too. Jammu Kashmir has a literacy rate of 77.3 percent, Kerala has a literacy rate of 96.2. The literacy rate in West Bengal is 80.5 percent. Uttar Pradesh has a literacy rate of 73.0 percent.
