UP Man Arrested For ‘Objectionable’ Comments on Yogi and Modi on Facebook

Nowadays even a Facebook comment can land you in jail, if you target a powerful politician. A 50-year-old man, arrested on Friday over posting objectionable comments against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, in Greater Noida, police said.

Yogesh Chaudhary, alias Shiv Pratap,last posted a comment on Facebook after which a local BJP worker submitted screenshots of the post and demanded the Jewar police station for arrest. 

“Chaudhary has been arrested after an FIR was lodged against him on the basis of a complaint made by BJP’s Jewar unit chief Ashok Sharma on October 5 alleging indecent and objectionable comments against the UP chief minister,” officials said. 

As per the reports, SHO Jewar police station, Umesh Bahadur said, “Chaudhary had made similar comments against the prime minister also.Chaudhary is a property dealer but identifies himself as a ”farmer”and”leader of a farmers’ union”, Umesh said. 

They registered an FIR under section 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion) and section 504 (criminal Intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“We are investigating the matter,”according to police.
