A Bank Manager of Elaqahi Dehati Bank (EDB), Branch Arreh Kulgam, who was shot at and injured in the southern district succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

An official told The Kashmiriyat that Vijay Kumar aged 26 who was working in Kashmir in 2018 was fired upon by a masked gunman when he was on duty at the EDB in the Arreh area of Kulgam district.

Vijay, a resident of Rajasthan was shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment, however, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, the official said.

According to his colleagues who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, Vijay got married barely five months ago and he was planning to bring his family to Kashmir

Meanwhile, the Government forces have reached the area and laid a cordon to nab the attackers.

Pertinently, the killing comes two days after the killing of Rajni Bala, a Government teacher who was shot dead by suspected militants in the Gopalpora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The repeated targeted killings have promoted fear among the Kashmiri Pandits and other Hindu communities in the Kashmir valley. The Government employees from the community have been demanding transfer to “safer” locations.

The Kashmiri Pandits have been protesting since the killing of their community member, Rahul Bhatt in early May inside a Government office in Beerwah Budgam by suspected militants. They accuse the Government of having failed to secure the lives of minorities in Kashmir.
