Two labourers were killed and two others injured in a militant attack in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir on Sunday.
The attack took place in the Gagangeer area of Sonamarg, targeting workers engaged in a key infrastructure project involving the construction of a tunnel in the Gund region.
According to officials, militants opened fire at the camp where the labourers, employed by a private construction company, were stationed.
Two labourers were killed instantly, while two others sustained injuries.
The government forces, including police and army personnel, have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers.
Condemning the attack, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his grief on social media, stating: “Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in the Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. Two have been killed, and 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and send my condolences to their loved ones.”
