Water levels begin to recede in Srinagar

The latest gauge readings at 11:00 PM indicate that the water level of river Jhelum has begun to recede in Srinagar, offering some relief to residents after hours of concern.

At Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar, the level was recorded at 21.09 ft against the danger mark of 21 ft, showing signs of stability and a gradual downward trend.

This comes after water levels had remained steady earlier in the evening. The water level has gone down by 1 inch in the last one hour, as per details available with The Kashmiriyat.

At Sangam in south Kashmir, the level dropped to 22.63 ft, compared to the danger mark of 25 ft. Similarly, at Asham in north Kashmir, the water level stood at 12.22 ft, below the danger mark of 16.5 ft.

Tributary readings also showed declining trends. At Pampore, the gauge was at 6.06 m against the danger level of 5.0 m, while at Khudwani, Vishow Nallah recorded 7.12 m against the danger mark of 8.50 m.

Officials from the Data Collection Sub-Division Srinagar said the situation is being closely monitored. They added that the steady readings in Srinagar are a positive sign and the overall levels are expected to recede further in the coming hours.
