Water scarcity hits several villages in Bandipora, locals aghast

Residents of several villages in the Bandipora district complained that they were facing an acute shortage of potable water for the last few months.

Locals from Ganie-Mohalla Ajas, Chaangali and Check-Guroora told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that in absence of an adequate quantity of tap water, they were being forced to use contaminated water.

The locals said their women folk face a lot of hardships in fetching water from different spots. “Amid this winter season, we are without drinking water while the concerned authorities don’t pay attention to our sufferings,” Mushtaq Ahmad local from Ajas Ganie-Mohalla said.

The villagers said they held protests in the past to highlight their plight to no avail.

The residents of affected areas appealed to the chief engineer, the Jal-Shakti department, and the district administration to look into the matter
