The Anantnag court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of three individuals accused of the “wild garlic fraud case” and orchestrating a large-scale financial fraud, a decision that has been welcomed by locals and seen as a boost to ongoing police investigations.
Officials at the District Court confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that the bail plea of Tasaduq Hussain Dar alias Haji Tasaduq of Sadoora, Mohammad Iqbal Wani alias Iqbal Bumdori of Bumdoora Kokernag, and Mujeeb Ahmad Koka of Shankerpora Dooru was dismissed in connection with FIR No. 126/2025 registered at Police Station Anantnag.
The trio had been arrested earlier for allegedly running a sophisticated fraud racket involving bogus ventures in real estate, fruit trade, and wild garlic (Jangli Lahsun) business.
As per a Police official at Anantnag who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, the Victims from multiple districts, including one from Kishtwar, alleged they were cheated of large sums of money, ₹55 lakh in the garlic deal alone, after being promised high returns. Police said the accused resorted to criminal intimidation when repayments were sought.
As part of the probe, Anantnag Police conducted raids at three locations in the district to recover evidence and identify additional victims or possible accomplices.
“This is being investigated as an organised financial crime, and all leads are being pursued,” a senior police officer told The Kashmiriyat. “The court’s rejection of bail reinforces the seriousness of this case, and we urge any other victims to come forward so justice can be ensured.”
The case has also sparked public outrage, with protests erupting in south Kashmir.
Locals lauded the Anantnag police for acting promptly. “For once, we feel the authorities are standing with the common people, not the fraudsters. Swift action like this restores our faith in law enforcement,” said a local from Kokernag who participated in the protest.
