Omar Abdullah, the Vice President of the National Conference (NC), reiterated that he will not be contesting the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
In an interview with the national news agency PTI, he affirmed his commitment to lead NC’s campaign during the polls. He recently faced defeat in the Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla, losing to Awami Itihad Party (AIP) leader Er Abdul Rashid.
Explaining his decision, Abdullah stated that he would refrain from entering the legislature of a Union Territory (UT) to avoid humiliation.
Despite his personal disappointment over his defeat, he acknowledged the nature of electoral politics, emphasizing that losses are part of the game.
He expressed satisfaction with NC’s overall performance, despite his individual setback.
Asserting his stance on the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah affirmed his dedication to the cause.
He expressed optimism about the possibility of achieving statehood, citing commitments made by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister both inside and outside Parliament, especially considering the BJP’s failure to secure a majority in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
