Russia has condemned Israel’s military actions in Lebanon, accusing the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) of launching a ground invasion into Lebanese territory.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has warned Israel to immediately withdrawal its troops, warning that the situation could further escalate.
Russia asked the international community to push for diplomatic solutions to the conflict.
This comes as Israeli forces initiated “ground raids” in southern Lebanese villages, targeting Hezbollah positions.
The conflict has already resulted in significant casualties, with reports indicating that over 1,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since September 23, 2024.
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry also condemned Israel’s operations, calling on the United Nations to take swift action. Hezbollah has denied Israeli troops entering Lebanon, although tensions continue to rise.
Israel’s actions echo past conflicts, including the 2006 Lebanon War, and have been marked by a more preemptive approach, with Israeli forces targeting Hezbollah’s logistics and infrastructure.
With Hezbollah’s leadership reportedly weakened after recent airstrikes, including the death of its leader Hassan Nasrallah, the situation remains volatile, raising concerns of a wider regional conflict involving Iran and its proxies.
