Woman dies of alleged medical negligence at MCH Anantnag, Hospital denies allegations

On Monday morning a woman a resident of the Bijbehara area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district died in MCH Anantnag due to alleged medical negligence.

The father of the woman alleged that his daughter died due to the medical negligence of the staff.

“She was supposed to give a test dose but they gave her the whole injection which caused the reaction and her death.” her father alleged, adding that the nurse on duty misbehaved with them.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tanzeela Incharge of HOD MCH Anantnag refuted the claims of the patient’s family and said that it is one of the rare cases that after the test dose, the patient has a severer reaction.

Family of the deceased also alleged that she died in the ward and was taken to Operation theatre for a formality and claimed to have heard the two nurses talking that the woman died because of heart attack.

“When our doctor saw the reaction and she was vomiting our doctor immediately transferred her to the operation theatre where she died,” Dr. Tanzeela claimed

Pertinently, the hospital in Anantnag caters to four south Kashmir districts and at times over to the districts of Ramban, however, several videos and reports from the Anantnag hospitals, especially during the last few years, have showed heightened allegations of medical negligence.

In May 2020, a family of a pragnent woman from Seer was forced to take the woman’s body on a trolley, the videos of had gone viral over social media.

On July 28, 2021, Angry Civilians on Tuesday morning broke the window panes of the hospital and vandalized the property inside the Government hospital, after a pregnant lady (Rozy Jan, a resident of Gadhanzpora in Bijbehara area of Anantnag) died allegedly of medical negligence in the Maternity and childcare hospital of Anantnag.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the relatives of the lady said that a doctor posted in the hospital did not treat her saying, “She is faking pain, she is alright eventually she passed away on Tuesday morning.”

On January 28, a Kulgam woman’s kin alleged that she died due to medical negligence at GMC Anantnag and staged a massive protest demanding action against the accused doctors, however, GMC Principal refuted the allegations.

On 06 December 2021, the family members of a Kishtwar man alleged that their patient died of medical negligence at GMC Anantnag. The medical superintendent of the hospital assured action against the accused, if found guilty. However, the report of the investigation, if any launched, was never made public.

On 27 August 2021, family members of Saba Bano wife of Shahzad Ahmad Shah, who was a resident of Churath Kulgam said that their patient died due to the negligence of doctors at Government Medical College Anantnag, the officials of GMC, however, refuted the allegations of medical negligence.

on 18 May 2021, the family members of another patient from Anantnag town alleged that they were mistreated at GMC Anantnag and their patient died of negligence and mismanagement at the hospital.
