Nineteen people have been arrested from Srinagar’s Maisuma and its adjoining areas after protests hit the area on Wednesday following the verdict of Mohamed Yasin Malik, Police said.
Earlier ten youth had been arrested during raids conducted in the Maisuma locality, a few hours after protests erupted in the area after a court in New Delhi sentenced Yasin Malik to life imprisonment.
A Police official had told The Kashmiriyat that the youth were accused of stone-pelting and anti-national sloganeering in Maisuma area of Srinagar , which is always known to be the hub of protests.
“The youth will have been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for trying to disrupt the law and order situation. “Other than Maisuma the situation remained peaceful,” the official had said.
On Sunday, the Jammu Kashmir Police through a tweet said nine more youth have been arrested. “19 accused arrested so far (after proper identification), in relation to arson, stone pelting, sloganeering etc. outside house of Yasin Malik on 25th. Youth is advised to stay away from such subversive activities. Such activities will never be tolerated at all, now or in future,” Srinagar Police Tweeted
Pertinently on Wednesday protests erupted in Maisuma after Mohammed Yasin Malik, the JKLF chairman was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Court in New Delhi.
Yasin Malik did not plead his case and told the court that “he will not beg for justice”.
