Youth Politics Rhetoric-Shah Faesal, Shehla Rashid Likely to Join Politics

July 18

The Speculations regarding the joining of Shah Faesal and Shehla Rashid are back into the market post a Tweet by Senior Journalist, Barkha Dutt, both of them are expected to join Omar Abdullah led National Conference before 2019 Elections.

Shah Faesal who recently called India “Rapistan” and Shehla known for her political rhetoric as a pro left Activist are both facing disciplinary action. Shehla who is studying at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi has in the recent past been seen as someone very close to Kashmir mainstream politics, however Shah Faesal’s entry into politics may come as a surprise or may not.

In Jammu Kashmir when all the major parties are formulating strategies for Lok Sabha elections the next year, many political experts believe that local as well as Indian central parties will try to use the “Youth card.” Waheed Para of People’s Democratic Party is also likely to contest elections on the ticket of PDP.

The Bhartiya Janta Party has also formulated a committee for Panchayat and Municipal polls however Omar Abdullah has clearly stated that time is not right to hold any elections in Jammu Kashmir.

In 2016, Omar had openly expressed his support to volleys of tweets hurled at Shehla, Omar wrote, “Now, being a Kashmiri Muslim is a crime enough to warrant interrogation. BTW, it’s Shehla not Shiela, but what the hell!!”

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Shehla’s recent trip to Kashmir was fully sponsored by a regional party which included her travels, the press meeting and other expenses. Earlier this year, Shora dropped hints of joining mainstream politics to “address the issues of youth.” However the larger question remains, ‘Does the youth connect to the Mainstream?
