‘Zub sob’, Kashmir’s renowned spiritual woman, passes away

After having served the residents of Kashmir valley for several decades, Zub sob, a reputed spiritual woman from Budgam passed away on Friday morning.

Locals informed The Kashmiriyat that the mystic woman Zubaida Begum (Zub sob) passed away on Friday morning after a brief illness in the Shopian district of south Kashmir.

A little is known about her roots, but locals said that she was originally a resident of Charar e Shareef in Budgam and traveled to different parts of the valley including Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian where she earned thousands of followers, both women and men.

“She was mostly found around the Khanqah of Dastgeer Sahab in Khanyar, Alamdar e Kashmir in Charar e Shareef, where she was seen helping women with spiritual and religious issues,” a local said.

Zub Sob had earned a great reputation among locals over the years and her death has brought grief to the entire area.

“It happened! Today, we mourn the loss of a truly great personality of Charari Sharief, whose spiritual legacy touched countless lives with wisdom, kindness, and unwavering compassion. Their presence was a beacon of light in our community, guiding us with their profound insight and gentle grace. Though, departed from this physical realm, their legacy of love and inspiration will forever remain in our hearts. As we grieve this profound loss, let us also celebrate the beautiful soul who enriched our lives and strive to honor their memory by embodying the virtues they so deeply cherished. Rest in eternal peace, “Zub Saeb”. Your light will continue to shine in our hearts and souls,” Adil Saleem, a social media user from Kashmir wrote to his Facebook page.

Hundreds of people have gathered at the Grand mosque of Charar e Shareef where the funeral prayers for Zub Sob are being offered.
