Militants Escape After a Brief Exchange of Gunfire in Anantnag

At least two to three Militants on Monday managed to escape after a brief exchange of fire in the Verinag Forest range of  South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) District.

An official told The Kashmiriyat that Indian Army, PARA, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the forests of Verinag area following an input about Militant movement in the area.

During the cordon, the holed up Militants opened fire upon forces, triggering an exchange of gunfire.

After, the initial contact, however, no contact was established, the searches continued for many hours, however Militants have escaped the spot, Sources said.

Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that initially a few gunshots were heard after which a group of Militants has escaped.

The Search operation has been called off.
