‘State-land’ evictions: Agitated locals confront bulldozers in Baramulla, Tehsildar injured

Angry locals in Chakloo area of Baramulla allegedly attacked a Tehsildar when the revenue officials demolished several structures during an anti-encroachment drive carried out by authorities on Saturday.

Official sources said that the anti-encroachment drive to retrieve state land was undertaken in the Chakla Rafiabad area of the north Kashmir district.

As the officials went ahead to demolish structures, several locals protested against the drive, however, the officials went ahead with the demolition after which locals attacked the official.

However, officials said that the Tehsildar identified as Kifayat Ali ws attacked without any provocation when he was merely “doing his duty”. He has received minor injuries during the attack, the officials said.

On Saturday, officials said that state land worth crores of rupees was retrieved from the “illegal” occupation of many, including influential people.
