A top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander, also known to be an IED expert, was among the three Militants killed in an encounter with a joint team of police, Army and CRPF in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the wee hours on Friday.
BS Thakur, a brigadier in Indian Army, posted in Kulgam District while addressing a press conference at Wajur area in Qazigund said that the top JeM commander had managed to escape from previous encounters, leaving behind an MO4 American rifle at one instance.
Detailing about the Encounter, Thakur said that the Government forces launched a cordon and search operation early Friday morning in Nagnad chamer Kulgam area of the district following information about the presence of militants there, the search operation turned into an encounter when the hiding militants opened fire on the security forces who retaliated.
“Three army soldiers were also injured in the anti-terror operation at the Nagnad Chimmer area of the Kulgam district”, Thakur said.
“The operation was launched in the wee hours this morning on a credible input by Kulgam Police along with local Army (9 RR) and CRPF units,” he said.
“The killed [militants] are from Jaish-e-Mohammed and reportedly include a top [militant] commander known to be an IED expert. [He] was responsible for a large number of attacks including many IED attempts against security forces in the recent past,” he said.
He held the slain non-Local commander involved in killing of non local labourers who was killed at katrasoo Kulgam.
He also said that 100 militants are active in south Kashmir which includes 30 foreigners.
