The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) 108 and 102, operated by BVG India Ltd in partnership with the Government of Jammu Kashmir, have successfully facilitated 1000 deliveries since their establishment on March 24, 2020, according to official data released on Monday.
An official emphasized that this life-saving initiative has become an indispensable support system for expectant mothers in the region. “The trained staff of the 108 ambulances played a pivotal role in conducting these deliveries, providing crucial assistance during childbirth,” the official stated.
The official further reported that the 108 Jammu Kashmir Emergency Medical Services have diligently served an impressive 2,71,801 patients. Notably, amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the service attended to 12,111 COVID patients, showcasing resilience during times of crisis. “Out of the total patients served, 29 percent (78,175) were pregnancy-related emergencies, highlighting the vital role played by the emergency services in maternal care,” the official added.
District-wise statistics reveal Unhamper as the highest, with 8,665 pregnancy cases, followed by Rajouri at 7,158, Kupwara at 4,968, and Kathua at 4,881. Srinagar reported the lowest with 981 cases, followed by Anantnag 10, Bandipora 26, Baramulla 16, Budgam 17, Doda 69, Ganderbal 31, Jammu 84, Kathua 107, Kishtwar 64, Kulgam 19, Poonch 12, Pulwama 6, Rajouri 82, Ramban 83, Reasi 57, Samba 38, Shopian 13, and Udhampur 229.
Additionally, Udhampur leads in district-wise assisted births, with 229 deliveries, followed by Kathua 107, Jammu 84, and Ramban 83. The official emphasized that the 108 Jammu and Kashmir Emergency Medical Services have not only achieved a significant milestone by assisting in 1000 deliveries but have also proven to be a critical component of the healthcare infrastructure.
