A 17-year-old boy was lynched by a mob in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Sunday, three juveniles have been arrested and attempts are underway to nab others.
Identified as Mohammed Showkat, he had shared a reel on Instagram, in which a local criminal named Sohan Lal Kashyap was abused. According to his family members, the criminal was outraged over the same and killed him.
“We lodged an FIR, and conducted the victim’s post-mortem examination on Monday. Initial investigation has revealed that he had posted a video on social media and had some heated arguments with the locals. On Sunday, he was picked up by them and they killed him. One of the accused is a local criminal of the area and a proposal for his externment is pending. We are looking for him.” Additional DCP (Dwarka district) Vikram Singh said was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.
Nargis, Showkat’s sister said her brother was found in an unconscious condition near a school in the Uttam Nagar area.
“Showkat worked at a factory and was at home on Sunday. He had gone out and when he did not return, the family suspected something was wrong. We received a call that Showkat had been found in an unconscious condition near a school. When we reached the spot, Shaukat was alive. He was breathing. Policemen who were at the spot scolded us when we requested them to take my brother to the hospital. It was only after pleading several times, police officers took him to the hospital. He was taken to Mahendru Hospital and then shifted to DDU hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” his sister told Maktoob.
