A land dispute between two brothers in the Humpatri area of D.H. Pora, Kulgam, turned tragic on Thursday afternoon after the daughter of one of them lost her life during the altercation.
The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Khushbu Jan, daughter of Mohammad Ashraf Lone, one of the two brothers involved in the dispute.
According to locals who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, a heated argument over property escalated into a physical clash, during which the girl suffered fatal injuries, a claim the Police is verifying.
“She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead,” locals said.
Police have taken cognizance of the matter and have started legal formalities including the shifting of the body for autopsy.
“The girl was brought dead to the hospital. The body will be handed over to the legal heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities. An FIR has been lodged, however, the true reason behind the death is not clear as of yet,” a police official told The Kashmiriyat.
The incident has triggered shock and outrage in the area, with locals calling for a thorough investigation.
