Treasuries Remain Locked for 5th Consecutive Day

August 17 The Government Treasuries remained shut for the fifth consecutive day on Friday as the employees of Jammu Kashmir Accounts and Finance Department are on strike. The JK Accounts employees Association on Friday decided that they will intensify their protests if their 'genuine' demands were not met. 2 Civilians Injured in Grenade Blast at Awantipora

August 17 Unknown persons hurled a grenade at the office of Superintendent of Police in Awantipora on Friday afternoon resulting in injuries to two persons, one of them has been critically wounded. A Police official posted in Awantipora confirmed the attack to The Kashmiriyat and said that one civilian has sustained serious injuries. He has been shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment. Meanwhile the Forces have started a search operation around the area to nab the attackers.

Unknown Gunmen kill Woman In Pulwama

PULWAMA
August 17 Unknown persons on Friday killed a woman outside her home in Drabgam in South Kashmir's Pulwama. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that unknown gunmen fired at a lady, shameema Akhtar  wife of Ali Mohammed Bhat outside her house in Drabgam. The lady was rushed to the hospital, however she had died on the spot, Locals said. A Police official upon being contacted told The Kashmiriyat that Police has registered a Case in this regard and an investigation has been taken up.

CASO Launched in the Native of Azad Dada

August 17 A Cordon and Search Operation has been launched in the Arwani area of Bjbehera in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District on Friday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Government Forces including 9 RR of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police launched a joint Anti Militancy operation in the area following specific input about Militant presence in the Arwani area. Locals said that a heavy contingent of Forces have reached the area and are conducting a search operation in the area. The search operation was going on when this report was filed.

Kerala Flood- At least 100 Feared to be Dead

August 17 The incessant rains and floods continued to wreak havoc in Kerala with the death toll due to the worst flooding in nearly a century crossing 100 and Many are feared missing. Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala continued to be the worst affected in the last 24 hours as thousands of people are trapped in their homes in the towns of Ranni, Aranmula and Kozhencherry. With rains still pouring down heavily leading to flooding across Kerala, 20 fresh deaths were reported on Thursday, taking the toll to 87, since August 8. Meanwhile, the operations at Cochin International Airport have been suspended till Saturday 2 pm after flood water submerged the runway.

At least 500 Locals have Joined Militancy Since 2010

July 16 The Kashmir valley has been seeing a constant rise in the number of Militant recruitment after the fall the summer uprising of 2010. Reports estimate that as many as 500 local youth have become militants out of whom the majority have come from South Kashmir. August 16 A Former prime minister of India and a parliamentarian for over 40 years, Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on Thursday at the AIIMS where he had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment since June. “It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05pm on 16.08.2018,” AIIMS said in a statement on Thursday. The former prime minister, 93 was Renowned for his powerful oratory, his stance on Kashmir and poetry. Vajpayee served as prime minister for 13 days in 1996, 13 months (1998-99) at the head of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and then for a full five year term (1999-2004).
