Following the weather forecast in Jammu Kashmir on Monday and Tuesday, authorities on Sunday issued an avalanche warning for higher reaches in the Kashmir division. An official of the Disaster Management Department said medium danger avalanche warning will remain in force during the next few days in Kupwara district while low danger avalanche warning will remain in force in Baramulla, Anantnag, Kulgam, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts. Fresh Snowfall Forces Closure of Mughal Road

Waris Shah The Kashmir valley on Monday morning witnessed fresh snowfall which forced the closure of the Mughal road for vehicular movement. "Mughal road is closed due to snowing. Also snowing on Srinagar Leh road," a Traffic official said on Monday. The 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway has also been closed for vehicular movement on Monday due to fresh snowfall at Zojila Pass. Meanwhile, Locals from Banihal said that it has also been snowing at the Jawahar Tunnel but the traffic is through so far. Many other areas of the Kashmir valley including Sonmarg, Gulmarg and various areas in North Kashmir and down South in Pahalgam parts, Sinthan received fresh snowfall on Monday. Seven persons trapped in a vehicle that toppled due to inclement weather conditions were rescued by the Army in Jammu Kashmir's Rajouri district. Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Devender Anand said that the passenger vehicle had toppled on the Mughal Road around 5 pm on Saturday due to sleet and left seven persons trapped inside. "Jawans from the Poshana post in Rajouri district swiftly reached the spot and rescued the trapped passengers. They were given first aid and refreshments. The passengers thanked the Army and the people of the area who came to their rescue."

The Kashmir Valley woke up to a foggy morning on Sunday, leading to poor visibility and affected road traffic in most parts of the Kashmir. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu Kashmir and many parts of the Valley witnessed dense fog in the morning. It led to traffic jam as motorists drove cautiously due to poor visibility. The Meteorological Department here said the fog was a result of sudden dip in the temperatures and condensation of water droplets in the atmosphere. “This is a normal phenomenon during time of the season,” said a weather office official. Meer Irfan A building belonging to the Shopian's District Hospital Shopian was damaged in a fire incident. An official told The Kashmiriyat that fire broke out in the Indoor patient's department of the Shopian District on Sunday around 2 AM caught fire, resulting in damage to the building. "All the patients were evacuated safely and shifted to a privatehospital," he said. The Policemen along with the fire tenders brought the fire under control. The apple production in Kashmir has gone down by almost 40 per cent, thus leaving the growers worried in the Valley. Bashir Ahmad, President of Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers cum Dealers Union (KVFGCDU) told that substandard pesticides have resulted in decrease in the annual apple production by 40 per cent in the Valley. He added in this year only, the scab in apples due to the substandard and duplicate pesticides have damaged over 60 per cent of the production. Ahmad said that prior to COVID outbreak, the orchards suffered huge losses due to the heavy rains. “Now, the pesticides available in markets wreaked havoc over the apple production as the quality was totally substandard,” he said.
