Kashmir Valley and Ladakh continued to reel under freezing temperatures with Srinagar recording the second night on Friday. A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded minus 2.4°C against previous night’s minus 1.8°C. It was second coldest night after December 1 when mercury fell to 2.5°C, lowest temperature recorded this season. Qazigund recorded minimum temperature of minus 1.8°C against minus 1.5°C on the previous night, he said. It was minus 0.8°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir for this time of the year, the official said. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 4.1°C against minus 4.2°C on previous night. 93 orders issued for suspension of internet services in J&K after SC directions

The Jammu Kashmir administration has issued 93 orders for confirming suspension of internet services in the Union Territory after the Supreme Court directed it to publish all such orders in January 2020. In its report, the parliamentary panel on Communications and Information Technology has revealed that J&K Government submitted that 93 orders were issued by the competent authority to confirm the decisions of suspension of internet services in the region. “UT of J&K in their written submission stated that since issuance of the directions by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, a total of 93 orders, including 76 orders issued by the competent authority to the effect of confirming the directions by the authorized officers, have been issued,” reads the report, a copy of which is in posses...

24 travelers among 177 fresh covid-19 cases, no death reported in J&K

24 travelers were among 177 fresh covid-19 cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday. 37 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 140 from Kashmir, taking the overall tally to 337263. There was no death due to the virus during the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4477 persons—2185 in Jammu and 2292 in Kashmir—have died due to the virus, they said. Joint Forces launched a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) in the main town of Bandipora in North Kashmir on Thursday afternoon. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that forces including Army's 14 RR, para-military troopers and Jammu Kashmir Police cordoned off the main chowk of Bandipora and Sabzi Mandi, Gulshan Chowk and the adjoining areas. The operation was launched after the inputs about the movement of militants in the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that all the entry and exit points have been sealed to the area.
