Mutahida Ulema e Ahli Sunnat (MUAS), an umbrella organization of religious outfits in the Kashmir valley, on Wednesday, asked the Jammu Kashmir admin to withdraw the order allowing the sale of beer in urban areas. "On one side, the Jammu Kashmir administration campaigns for drug awareness and claims that it is making attempts to reduce drug addiction in Kashmir and on the other the JK admin is promoting the sale of alcohol in the valley," the spokesman of MUAS said. Apple growers worried about untimely snow in Kashmir have started early pruning of trees with experts terming it an unscientific move. Growers from different areas of Kashmir told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that about 30-40 percent fruit is yet to be plucked but several growers have started pruning trees as they are fearful about untimely snowfall leading to damages. Aamir Hussian, a fruit grower from Shopian told KNO that they are yet to pack half of their produce but they have completed pruning as they were fearful of damage caused by untimely snowfall last year. “Our apple trees suffered huge damages last year and if this year the same happens to our orchards, we will collapse economically, '' he said. At least 50 animals were perished after lightening struck a seasonal house in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district. The incident took place in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Police told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that lightening struck a dhok (seasonal house) in Bari Behak area of Thanamandi in which around fifty cattle got perished. Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik, presently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, appeared virtually in a special court in Jammu on Wednesday after the Centre turned down his request to appear in person, Hindustan Times reported. Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president and Sangrur Punjab MP Simranjit Singh Mann continued his sit-in protest at Lakhanpur after he was denied entry into Jammu Kashmir on Monday evening. Simranjit Singh along with his supporters was stopped at Lakhanpur by the administration stating that his visit may cause “disturbance in public and tranquility”.
