Political parties have reacted over the killing of an arrested hybrid militant Imran Bashir Ganai in an encounter as per police from the firing of another militant on Wednesday. Member Parliament and National Conference leader Justice (retired) Hasanin Massodi while demanding an independent and impartial probe into the killing of Imran Bashir Ganai said that civilian killings call for outright condemnation and cannot be condoned on any ground whatsoever. Former minister and BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Wednesday said that BJP will form the next government on its own in Jammu Kashmir and that they were ready for elections anytime. Talking to reporters in Dooru, Sharma said that BJP was ready for elections in Jammu Kashmir and the way the Election Commission of India is preparing, “we hope elections will be held soon here.” He said that the support the BJP is getting from the people of Jammu Kashmir indicates that they (BJP) will form the next government in Jammu Kashmir on its own. SC dismisses JK Police’s petition seeking cancellation of Waheed Parra’s bail

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition of the Jammu Kashmir Police challenging the cancellation of PDP leader Waheed Ur Rehman Parra's bail application. Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S Oka in an order rejected a special leave petition moved by the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Investigating Agency (SIA), which is a unit of the CID department. "On hearing the learned counsel for parties, we would not like to interfere with the aspect of the grant of bail but we are certainly not giving our imprimatur to any of the observations coming in the impugned order as regards the interpretation of the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act)," the order said while dismissing the special leave petition. Kashmir spends over ₹600 crores on tobacco products annually; 38.3 per cent males smoke: Survey

In Jammu Kashmir, 38.3 per cent of the male population and 3.6 per cent of the female population consume tobacco products, as per the National Family Health Survey. “Tobacco products mostly used by men are cigarettes (27% ), bidis (4%), hookah, and cigars or pipe (2% each). Among women and men, the use of any form of tobacco is slightly higher in rural areas (1.4% for women and 35% for men) than in urban areas (0.7% for women and 24% for men),” the data revealed. Over one-third (35%) of men who smoke cigarettes smoked 5 to 9 cigarettes in 24 hours. In 2020, a survey conducted by the Government revealed that Kashmir is spending a whopping Rs 600 crore on the purchase of tobacco products annually. Four tourists from Delhi and UP were killed after the Jeep they were traveling in skidded off the road near Khardungla Pass and fell into 150 feet gorge.
