The former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday condemned the ‘custodial’ killing of a Shopian youth and demanded a fair probe into the incident.
Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and said, “Using dubious nomenclature- hybrid militant & chance encounters to justify civilian killings has become the norm in Kashmir. Imran Ganai arrested by the police & then killed in their custody allegedly by another militant defies logic & deserves a thorough investigation.”
Imran Ganai, a youth from south Kashmir’s Shopian district was arrested on Monday night in the aftermath of the grenade attack in the Shopian district which left two non-local laborers dead.
On Wednesday morning, the Jammu Kashmir Police said Imran was killed in the firing of a militant during an encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
