Fraud in Ayushman Bharat scheme, action against 13 JK hospitals

JK State Health Agency (SHA) has suspended the empanelment of 13 hospitals and imposed heavy penalties on 17 others for their involvement in fraud while implementing the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). Officials said over Rs 1.77 crore have been imposed as a penalty on the hospitals involved in fraudulent activities in 2022 out of which over Rs 1.34 crore have been recovered so far by the SHA. As per official sources, the hospitals which have faced the action include Ibn Sina Hospital, Rs 24 lakh penalty imposed and empanelment suspended; Quality Care Hospital, Rs 6.64 lakh penalty imposed; Narayana Hospital, Rs 54.62 lakh penalty imposed; Ess Bee Hospital, empanelment suspended; Waseem Memorial Hospital, empanelment suspended. ‘Launching commander’ of Hizbul Mujahideen killed by unknown gunman in Pakistan

Hizb ul Mujahideen's launching commander, Bashir Ahmad Peer alias Imtiyaz Alam, was killed in Pakistan's Rawalpindi on Monday evening. According to reports in Pakistani local media, an unknown assailant shot at Imtiyaz from point-blank range outside a shop in Rawalpindi, killing the top Hizb commander who was wanted in India. A resident of Kupwara district in north Kashmir, Narendra Modi government designated Peer as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in October last year. He was involved in providing logistics to the banned outfits, especially for infiltration into the Kupwara district in Jammu Kashmir.

Minor girl dies in after being hit by two-wheeler in Srinagar

A minor girl died after being hit by an unknown two-wheeler during a road accident in Sangam area of Srinagar. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday, a 6-year-old girl identified as Aliza daughter of Firdous Ahmad Dar, who is a resident of Takenwari was hit by unknown bike rider in Srinagar area, resulting in crtitical injuries to her. Aliza was shifted to JVC hospital Srinagar, where she was declared 'brought dead' by the doctors. A case has been registered in this regard and an investigation has been taken up, they added.

Two weeks after a major earthquake hit the region, the Syria-Turkey border region was hit with another powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale. The earthquake with a depth of 10 KM was centered near the southern Turkish city of Antakya and was felt in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon, Reuters reported. As per the local media reports at least six people died in the fresh earthquake while many structures collapsed. Delhi High Court seeks Centre’s response on plea claiming absence of penal code for foreigners in J-K

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Centre after a plea pointed out that there was no penal code in operation in Jammu  Kashmir (J-K) for foreign nationals, a media report said today. As reported by Bar and Bench website, the plea pointed out that Section 18 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) defines “India” as the territory of India excludes the “State of Jammu and Kashmir, and it remains unamended even after 2019 when Ranbir Penal Code, which was earlier applicable to J&K, was repealed.” It said that a Division Bench of Justices Mukta Gupta and Poonam A Bamba directed the government to file its response within four weeks. Srinagar Police on Monday said it have arrested 07 absconders in the last one month as they were involved in heinous cases, registered against them in different police stations of the district. According to a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the absconders include Farooq Ahmad Bhaga s/of Dalgate, Dr Arifat Jan of Nigeen, Zameer Ahmad Shah of Nowgam, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of Rainawari, Rashid Iqbal Malik of Check Narwa Banihal, Nazir Ahmad Shigun of Batamaloo, Mohammad Qasim Shah of Beerwah and Aijaz Ahmad Gujree of Baramulla. At least 10 houses, several shops, and 4 cowsheds were damaged after a landslide struck the Rezan area of Sonamarg in central Kashmir Ganderbal district last night. An official told the Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the landslide was triggered by continuous rains and caused massive damage in the area. He said the slide continued till 4 am and at least 10 houses, several shops, and cowsheds have been damaged in the incident.
