Jammu Kashmir has nearly 10 lakh drug addicts: Data

Jammu Kashmir has nearly ten lakh drug addicts, as per the National Survey on Extent and Pattern of Substance Use in India conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment India through National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. The data revealed in the parliament after National Conference Member of Parliament Hasnain Masoodi in Lokh Saba sought details of total number of suspected drug-addicts in Jammu Kashmir. As per a report by Daily Excelsior, 1,08000 males and 36,000 females were found using cannabis while 5,34,000 males and 8,000 females were found in the dragnet of opioids and 1,60,000 males and 8,000 females were found using sedatives of different kinds. Minor’s body found with slit throat in Kupwara

The throat-slit body of a 9-year-old girl was found in Zab village of Khurhama area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district this evening, reports and officials said. Reports reached GNS said that panic gripped Zab village as the body of a minor girl (name withheld) was found under suspicious circumstances adjacent to her home. The gruesome incident has taken the area by shock as more and more have been pouring in at the site – when this report was being drafted. Seeking dismissal of the writ petition filed by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti's daughter for issuance of a passport, the criminal investigation department wing of police has informed the High Court here that her final verification report was forwarded to the concerned department last month.
