Aligarh Muslim University set to launch its own satelite

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has initiated work on its own ambitious space programme which has been approved by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), working under the Department of Space. The project involves the development of ‘SS AMU SAT’, the first satellite programme named after its founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The SS AMU SAT is a Nanosatellite Project which began in November 2021 under the AMU Robo Club. The satellite is a 3U CubeSat with multiple objectives which include the study of economic growth in India’s poorest districts using satellite imagery and the implementation of an in-house developed image compression technology for faster multimedia transmission. Asim Jamil, son of renowned Pakistani Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, passed away in Punjab’s Talamba, his family told newspaper Dawn. Confirming the news in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Maulana Tariq Jamil on Sunday evening said the “accidental death” had turned the atmosphere mournful. “We request you all to remember us in your prayers on this sad occasion. May Allah grant my son a high place in heaven,” he added. According to a statement from the Punjab police spokesperson, the reported cause of death was a "gunshot." Unknown gunmen suspected to be militants fired upon a cop near Eidgah area of Central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Sunday. A top police officer told GNS that militants fired upon on inspector, identified as Masood near Eighah. He has been shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be critical.
