Authorities in south Kashmir's Shopian district are intensifying screening efforts after the detection of approximately 15 jaundice cases in recent weeks. Block Medical Officer (BMO) Shopian, Mohammad Yousuf, informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Pahnoo and surrounding areas have reported around 10-15 cases of jaundice. Among these, six cases were identified in Pahnoo itself, with 1-2 cases reported in neighbouring villages. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a young girl, aged around mid 20's, was found dead in the Magam area of Budgam on Wednesday afternoon. The locals upon spotting the dead body informed the local police who have taken her to a nearby hospital for medical and legal formalities. School Education Department has claimed that in the past five years the dropout rate among the students have decreased by more than 32 percent in comparison to the years prior to 2019. It said that till the academic year 2023-24, the dropout rate among at high school level has decreased by 32.25 percent. The UP Special Task Force (STF) on Monday arrested four office-bearers of Halal Council of India, Mumbai, for allegedly extorting money in the name of halal certification. According to the UP STF sources, the arrested persons have been identified as Maulana Mudassir, Habib Yusuf Patel, Anwar Khan, and Mohammed Tahir. Notably, the Uttar Pradesh government had banned the manufacture, sale, storage, and distribution of halal-certified products in the state.
