At least 30 people were killed and 21 injured in a suicide truck bombing near a police base in the southern province of Ghazni on Sunday, official sources told Efe.
“We have received so far 21 injured and 30 dead,” said the director of Provincial Public Health, Baz Muhammad Hemat, who added that most of the victims are members of the security forces.
The suicide bomber exploded the bombs he was carrying in his vehicle early in the morning near a police base in the city of Ghazni, capital of the province of the same name, said the provincial governor, Wahidullah Jumazada.
A provincial source who preferred to remain anonymous stated that the attack was perpetrated with a Humvee previously stolen from the Afghan forces.
No group has claimed responsibility for the action, which comes a day after the Taliban claim to have reached an agreement with the government on the rules of the peace negotiations.
However, government sources said that only 21 points of rules and procedures have been agreed in principle, but that the decision is not final and requires further negotiations.
The peace talks between the Taliban and the government in Kabul started last September without progress, with the rules of the process as one of the major obstacles to progress.
One of the main objectives of the Kabul administration was to declare a ceasefire as soon as possible after the start of the talks, but the Taliban have insisted that the fighting against Afghan security forces is part of their Jihad or holy war and that they will not stop it until they are defeated.
