The five-day annual commemoration of the Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Baba Hyder Reshi also known as Resh moul sahib has begun in the Anantnag town of south Kashmir.

Hazrat Baba Hyder Reshi was born in the year 29th Rajab, 909 Hijri (1504 A.D) in a Blacksmith’s family and was believed to exhibit spiritual powers from childhood.

Like most of Kashmiri Sufi mystics, he conveys the message of love and and high humane traditions of Kashmir.

As part of Urs celebrations, the people of Anantnag abstain from eating non-vegetarian food for five days. Both Hindus and Muslims give up eating non-veg for these five days.

“After a gap of two years post the pandemic, large crowds from nooks and corners of south Kashmir are visiting the Khanqah. The special prayers will be observed on Thursday and Friday, when a massive congregation will be held at the Jamia Masjid, constructed by the 16th century saint,” Javid Ahmed Reshi, a member of the management committee of the Khanqah said.
