5 years on, Rs 17 crore Anantnag parking complex awaits completion

Even after an elapse of over five years, a multi level car parking complex in Anantnag town is awaiting completion.

Officials said that the foundation stone of the complex was laid in 2017 with an aim to end the traffic mess caused in absence of parking facilities.

They said that the foundation stone was laid on GMC road in Janglat Mandi area and the project was handed over to the housing board with a deadline to complete it in 2019 at Rs 17 crore.

However, two more years have passed after the deadline was over but the project is still incomplete leaving the commuters to lurch at large.

Locals said that the construction agency has missed so many deadlines despite repeated reminders to them.

They said that in absence of any proper car parking facility, people are forced to park their vehicles along the road there by blocking footpaths and roads at several places which often leads to long traffic jams.

Locals said that GMC premises are the only parking facility in the whole area which gets occupied in morning hours after which patients, attendants and others have no option other than to park their vehicles along road sides.

“This is the order of the day in the town that attendants take patients to GMC or other clinics and park their vehicle on the road but when they return they find their car lifted by the traffic crane and then take hours to get it back,” they said.

Locals requested higher ups to complete this complex at an earliest so that traffic mess in the area will be over once for all.

An official said that due to the paucity of funds, the project has taken so much time, however, now the project is near completion.

“All the exterior work has been done, only few interior works are pending on which work is going on and within two months it will be made functional,” he said—(KNO)
