6 Lakh Collected Within 2 Days for Two Houses Damaged in Shopian Encounters

About 6 Lakh rupees have been donated by people from various parts of the world to help the victims of the two encounters that raged in Shopian district recently.

A huge campaign was started on twitter and Facebook after Ummat e Islami, Jammu Kashmir made a public appeal, sharing the account numbers of the three house owners whose houses received massive damage during two gunfights, one in Reban area of Shopian and  another in Melhoora area of Shopian.

As soon as the letters were made public by UeI, massive campaign, #LetUsRebuildShopian was trended on twitter in which Twitterati posted the photographs of the massive damage during the gunfights, the users also appealed openly for donations.

On Thursday night, the collections of both the house owners stood at 6 Lakhs, the owners of the houses told The Kashmiriyat.

Farooq Ahmed Koka whose house was damaged during the encounter and his wife injured after she received five bullets in her leg, thanked people and said that he expects that in the coming days, the cost of the damage would be met, which is much higher.

Mohammed Shafi Reshi, the owner of the house in Reban also thanked people saying, “we had lost all the hope, it is good to see Kashmiris coming forward to help and trying to heal this collective loss.”

Jammu Kashmir Ummat e Islami has also thanked people and said that they are hopeful that such losses will be healed by people.
