6 Years On, Poor Hadicapped Couple from Anantnag Awaits Housing under Prime Minister’s Scheme

Sheikh Nadeem

Razkang, a remote village in Larnoo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, situated some 50 kilometers from the district headquarters lacks basic facilities.

Booba Khan, son of Sain Khan, hails from Razkang village in district Anantnag. The crippled duo- Booba Khan and his wife Zaitoon Banoo, while living in a tin shed still await for PMAY Scheme and SBM toilet.

Since the couple cannot provide for themselves, the villagers, on humanitarian grounds, provide basic facilities to help them both survive.

While a lot of hue and cry is made around how the administration has been reaching out to those in need, this duo is deprived of schemes provided by the government for handicapped persons.

Booba Khan has appealed to the LG and the district administration to approve central sponsored schemes like PMAY Shed and Swachh Bharat Mission toilet.

Khan says that during the winters, the couple has to face an immense amount of trouble. He has appealed that the administration takes steps for them before the winters arrive.

Others in the village say that the ministers have only visited them for votes, but would do nothing for their betterment. They said that instead the media persons reached them and highlighted their issues.

“We thank the media persons who reached our village and listened to our grievances,” Booba Khan said.

It is pertinent to mention that the village lacks basic facilities such as health care and clean drinking water. The dilapidated roads have also been causing a lot of hardships to the residents of Razkang.

The inhabitants of the villages in this hilly area while expressing anguish over the dilapidated condition of the road said that the authorities have turned a blind eye.
